Not to be confused with 1981s Greatest Hits, 1992s Classic
Queen, or 1992s reissue of 1981s Greatest Hits, 2004s Greatest
Hits is a superb 20-track sampler of Queens best, eclipsing all
of the aforementioned packages. Excepting their late-career
singles, this set spans the British groups tenure, from 1974s
“Seven Seas of Rhye” to a 1984 live performance of “Under
Pressure.” In between are a host of the ambitious, distinctive,
and often brilliant songs on which Queen built their name. The
multi-part “Bohemian Rhapsody,” with its lilting melodies,
layered operatic vocals, studio trickery, and heavy metal
breakdowns, epitomizes the groups recombinant aesthetic and
cheeky flair. The spare, disco-funk of “Another One Bites the
Dust” and the breezy, music hall-like “Killer Queen” should be
familiar to anyone within earshot of a radio in the 70s and
80s. The givens — the camp-rockabilly “Crazy Little Thing
Called Love” and perennial stadium anthems “We Will Rock You” and
“We Are the Champions” — are here, but surprises like the
exuberant “Dont Stop Me Now” give a well-rounded perspective on
the band. With Brian Mays unique guitar sound and Freddie
Mercurys brash, personality-filled vocal performances, Queen was

Release Notes FIRE IN THE ATTIC is a five piece rock / punk / hardcore / whatever band
from Bonn, Germany. They were founded in 2003 and have been touring since.
By now they released one EP and four Full Length records on Redfield
Records, a german indie label. They have toured with a great deal of well
known bands, including Alexisonfire, Coheed and Cambria, The Bled,
Underoath, Taking Back Sunday, Saosin, Jimmy Eat World, Millencolin,
Anti-Flag and many more. They also played alot of festivals including the
ROCK AM RING and ROCK IM PARK Festival, Highfield, Novarock, Rheinkultur,
all dates of the TASTE OF CHAOS tour in 2006 in Germany and played shows in
all over Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Belgium so far. The record
Cum Grano Salis was released in 2008 and came free with the german music
magazine VISIONS.

In 2008 the singer left the band and was replaced with Thomas Prescott,
former member of KENAI and resident of the UK. Their first record with the
current line up was released in spring 2009. They took a break in 2010 and
are still in a temporary hiatus.

Led Zeppelin’s reunion for an Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert in
November 2007 (pushed back a couple of weeks due to a finger
injury Jimmy Page sustained during rehearsals) seemed like a spur
of the moment thing — but how spontaneous could it have been if
it just happened to coincide with the release of an expanded The
Song Remains the Same on both CD and DVD the debut of their
catalog as digital downloads and the new two-disc compilation
Mothership as a sampler of the whole shebang? Considering this
full-scale multi-prong assault — which also included a new
album by Robert Plant after all — it was probably not all that
spontaneous. Such a precise attack suits this most mythic of
classic rock groups who always benefited from an enormous sense
of scale. Weighing in at two discs and 24 tracks Mothership has
a sense of scale that the previous round of compilations — the
two-part Early Days & Latter Days delivered in 1999 and 2000
respectively — lacked not just because it pushes these two
phases together but because it is heavy on the heavy epics
emphasizing Zeppelin’s sheer sonic ballast over either their
lighter or more idiosyncratic moments. This effects the second
disc more than the first as the band started out heavy and
expanded outward and while it would have been nice if Fool in
the Rain represented In Through the Out Door instead of In the
Evening this is a minor quibble as Mothership hits the obvious
high points without seeming perfunctory. And that along with
Page’s new remastering is the real selling point behind
Mothership: as a compilation it is both gripping listening and a
good introduction to this very album-oriented band which is what
makes it a welcome addition to their catalog
