Not to be confused with an EP of the same name (and released the
same year) Get Steady is the full-length debut by the New York
City quartet Jonny Lives. Usually when a new band offers an EP
before a full-length a few non-album tracks will be featured
But this turns out not to be the case with the Get Steady
full-length as all of the EP’s five tracks are included
making the earlier release completely obsolete. Either way the
highlights of the EP also turn out to be the highlights here
singerguitaristsongwriter Jonny Dubowsky lists classic British
Invasion bands as his prime influence but Weezer automatically
comes to mind with such tracks as Get Steady and especially
Lost My Mind. Elsewhere Diamonds and Roses sounds like a
more polished New York Dolls tune while several special guests
drop by to lend a hand — the Strokes’ Nick Valensi the Mooney
Suzuki’s Sammy James Jr. and Fountains of Wayne’s Jody Porter
In the early 21st century pop-punk friendly climate Jonny Lives
has no problem fitting in — despite assuming a slightly more
sophisticated angle than their sing-songy competition

Formed in 1987 Aberdeen WA United States. Disbanded April 8 1994

Considered by many to be the leading lights of the Seattle grunge scene of
the late 1980searly 1990s and perhaps the most influential rock band of
Generations X & Y Nirvana was a powerful trio of musicians who brought a
unique aesthetic to a growing-stale rock scene. They had already made some
waves on Sub Pop with their debut Bleach. But it wasn’t until their
major-label debut for DGCGeffen 1991s Nevermind — perhaps more
specifically the first 30 seconds of Smells Like Teen Spirit — that they
broke into the mainstream of America — not really because they wanted to
Lead singer frontman Kurt Cobain’s death (suspected suicide) in April 1994
brought an untimely end to the band. Drummer Grohl went on to form the Foo
Fighters. In the fall of 2004 With The Lights Out (a 3-CDDVD set of
mostly unreleased material) confirmed that interest in the band is still
very high. Most young rock stars today will likely cite Nirvana as a major
influence on them

Band of Joy was the name of Robert Plant s Black Country
psychedelic folk group of the late 60s and his revival of its
name and spirit in 2010 is of no small significance. Certainly
it s an explicit suggestion that Plant is getting back to his
roots which is true to an extent: the original Band of Joy was
unrecorded outside of a handful of demos so there is no
indication of whether this 2010 incarnation sounds anything at
all like the 60s band but the communal vibe that pulsates
throughout this album hearkens back to the age of hippies as much
as it is an outgrowth of Raising Sand Plant s striking duet
album with Alison Krauss. Such blurred borders are commonplace on
Band of Joy where American and English folk meld where the
secular and sacred walk hand in hand where the past is not past
and the present is not rootless. Assisted by co-producer Buddy
Miller and a band of roots iconoclasts highlighted by harmonist
Patty Griffin Plant finds fiercely original music within other
people s songs nabbing two songs from slow-core stalwarts Low
cherry-picking relative obscurities from Richard & Linda Thompson
and Los Lobos digging back to find forgotten songs from the
heyday of honky tonk and traditional folk tunes not often sung
Some of these songs feel like they ve been around forever and
some feel fresh but not in conventional ways: Low s Silver
Rider and Monkey feel like ancient unearthed backwoods
laments and the riotous You Can t Buy My Love feels as if it
was written yesterday. Much of the wonder of Band of Joy lies in
these inventive interpretations but the magic lies in the
performances themselves. Never as austere as the clean tasteful
impressionism of Raising Sand Band of Joy is bold and messy
teeming with life to its very core. It s as a joyous a record as
you ll ever hear a testament that the power of music lies not in
its writing but in its performance

Recorded at the Palace in Hollywood, California, 3-Ring Circus captures
Sublime during a pretty interesting point in their career. In just under seven
months, the band would finish the recording of their multi-platinum-selling,
self-titled album, and shortly afterwards frontman Bradley Nowell would pass
away from a heroin overdose. On this night, though, blissfully unaware of the
triumphs and tragedies awaiting them, Sublime delivered a set that perfectly
encompassed the carefree and somewhat ramshackle sound that made their debut,
40 oz to Freedom, such an amazingly associative blend of reggae, punk, and
hip-hop. As the band strolls through jammers like “54-46 Was My Number” and
“Garden Grove,” the picture painted isn’t necessarily one of a band coming
into the height of their power, but of a backyard party band throwing down in
front of a sold-out crowd of their closest friends as good times and good
vibes are in abundance on track after track. While Sublime had previously
released an album of live material, Stand by Your Van, which featured “Caress
Me Down” from this performance, 3-Ring Circus is the first live album from the
band to feature an entire performance, making it an essential artifact that
fans of the band will want to get their hands on. More importantly, however,
the live album serves as a bittersweet reminder of what all the fans who
arrived late to the Sublime party missed, and gives those fans hip to the band
after they’d been cut down the chance to finally see what they missed.

The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los
Angeles, California, with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray
Manzarek, drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger. The
band took its name from the title of Aldous Huxleys book The
Doors of Perception, which itself was a reference to a William
Blake quotation: “If the doors of perception were cleansed every
thing would appear to man as it is, infinite.” They were among
the most controversial rock acts of the 1960s, due mostly to
Morrisons wild, poetic lyrics and charismatic but unpredictable
stage persona. After Morrisons death in 1971, the remaining
members continued as a trio until finally disbanding in 1973.

They were signed to Elektra Records in 1966. The 1967 release of
The Doors was the first in a series of top ten albums in the US,
followed by Strange Days (1967), Waiting for the Sun (1968), The
Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), Absolutely Live (1970)
and L.A. Woman (1971), with 19 Gold, 14 Platinum and 5
Multi-Platinum album awards in the United States alone. Although
The Doors active career ended in 1973, their popularity has
persisted. According to the RIAA, they have sold 32.5 million
certified units in the US. The band has sold over 100 million
albums worldwide. The Doors were the first American band to
accumulate eight consecutive gold LPs. In 1993, The Doors were
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Candlebox is the debut album by Seattle rock band Candlebox. It
contains their best known hit Far Behind as well as the hit
singles Change You and Cover Me. Released in 1993 the
album has since been certified 4 platinum in the United States

The music videos for Far Behind and You remained in
longstanding rotation on MTV and became two of the most requested
videos of 1993

Other songs were recorded during the Candlebox sessions and
included on other releases. Can’t Give In for instance
